Тогда нужно бы и от природы требовать, чтобы она не посылала нам неприятных снегов, ветров, дождей, ненастий, но тогда у нас не было бы ни хлебушка, ни каши, ни одежды, ни обуви: все бы выжгло да погорело от постоянно ясных и теплых дней, но все хорошо в свое время. Без зимы не было бы весны, без весны не было бы лета. Так и в жизни духовной: немножко утешения, а затем немножко поскорбеть, и составляется, так помалу, путь спасения... А молитву Иисусову творить привыкнуть скоро нельзя. Ты только старайся не забывать о Боге и кайся в забвении и развлечении... Болеть можешь, сколько угодно, ибо это нам очень полезно, а скорбеть по времени – ибо причины не имеешь, а лучше благодари Бога за Его милости к нам немощным... Если тебя за уединение считают гордою – радуйся. Если мешают молиться, не унывай, а смиряйся.

What distinguishes the app from competitors is its use of what's known as channels: Public or private feeds of photos and videos that can be set up by one person or an organization. The channels have become popular with on-the-ground journalists, aid workers and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who broadcasts on a Telegram channel. The channels can be followed by an unlimited number of people. Unlike Facebook, Twitter and other popular social networks, there is no advertising on Telegram and the flow of information is not driven by an algorithm. To that end, when files are actively downloading, a new icon now appears in the Search bar that users can tap to view and manage downloads, pause and resume all downloads or just individual items, and select one to increase its priority or view it in a chat. Given the pro-privacy stance of the platform, it’s taken as a given that it’ll be used for a number of reasons, not all of them good. And Telegram has been attached to a fair few scandals related to terrorism, sexual exploitation and crime. Back in 2015, Vox described Telegram as “ISIS’ app of choice,” saying that the platform’s real use is the ability to use channels to distribute material to large groups at once. Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations. At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. In the United States, Telegram's lower public profile has helped it mostly avoid high level scrutiny from Congress, but it has not gone unnoticed.
