小.袨.小.馃嚭馃嚘 Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

A Russian Telegram channel with over 700,000 followers is spreading disinformation about Russia's invasion of Ukraine under the guise of providing "objective information" and fact-checking fake news. Its influence extends beyond the platform, with major Russian publications, government officials, and journalists citing the page's posts. Andrey, a Russian entrepreneur living in Brazil who, fearing retaliation, asked that NPR not use his last name, said Telegram has become one of the few places Russians can access independent news about the war. DFR Lab sent the image through Microsoft Azure's Face Verification program and found that it was "highly unlikely" that the person in the second photo was the same as the first woman. The fact-checker Logically AI also found the claim to be false. The woman, Olena Kurilo, was also captured in a video after the airstrike and shown to have the injuries. "This time we received the coordinates of enemy vehicles marked 'V' in Kyiv region," it added. If you initiate a Secret Chat, however, then these communications are end-to-end encrypted and are tied to the device you are using. That means it鈥檚 less convenient to access them across multiple platforms, but you are at far less risk of snooping. Back in the day, Secret Chats received some praise from the EFF, but the fact that its standard system isn鈥檛 as secure earned it some criticism. If you鈥檙e looking for something that is considered more reliable by privacy advocates, then Signal is the EFF鈥檚 preferred platform, although that too is not without some caveats.
