علی خامنه‌ای، روز چهارشنبه دوازدهم دی و در واکنش به سقوط بشار اسد و به قدرت رسیدن حکومت جدید در سوریه بدون اشاره مستقیم به نام محمد الشرع (ابومحمد جولانی) گفت: «به این جوله باطل نگاه نکنید، این‌هایی که امروز جولان می‌دهند روزی زیر پای مومنان لگدمال خواهند شد.» از زمان سقوط حکومت اسد در ماه گذشته، علی خامنه‌ای در تمام سخنرانی‌های عمومی مستقیم و غیرمستقیم حاکمان جدید سوریه را تهدید کرده است. سوریه و اتحادیه عرب از جمهوری اسلامی خواسته‌اند تا به دخالت در امور داخلی این کشور پایان دهد.
