На просьбу репортеров прокомментировать материал, он рассмеялся и предложил «спросить об этом немецкую газету». Со стороны России публикацию раскритиковала официальный представитель МИД РФ Мария Захарова. По ее данным, Сергей Лавров «допоздна работал на Смоленке», а рано утром приступил к подготовке к переговорам с ближневосточными коллегами в Москве.
