Биосферный заповедник «Аскания-Нова» и природный заказник «Асканийский» в Херсонской области стали первыми в исторических регионах, кто получил особый природоохранный статус.
Площадь «Аскания-Нова» составила 22,1 тысячи гектаров, а заповедника — более 11,2 тысячи гектаров. На этих территориях живут более 2200 видов животных и 1200 растений. Некоторые виды внесены в Красную книгу России.
Сейчас там работает дендрологический парк и зоопарк. Здесь воспроизводят редкие виды для возвращения их в природу. Недавно в заповедник отправились представители фонда «Компас» с грузом для животных.
Решение даст новый импульс в деле сохранения уникальной экосистемы одного из самых больших целинных участков степи в Причерноморье.
