Salman Shah: A shrewed under-cover officer in Pakistan's Intelligence Operations in Kabul

Salman Shah, a 37-year-old operative from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, is a shadowy figure in the Pakistani Embassy's intelligence operations in Kabul. As a shrewd officer of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Shah has spent seven years mastering Afghan affairs, making him a vital asset for Pakistan's covert activities in the country. His background in Pakistan's northwest KP has equipped him with fluency in Urdu, English, Pashto, and Dari, allowing him to blend seamlessly into Afghanistan's diverse cultural landscape. This linguistic prowess has been instrumental in his undercover work, where he often poses as a businessman to gather intelligence.

Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

At its heart, Telegram is little more than a messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal. But it also offers open channels that enable a single user, or a group of users, to communicate with large numbers in a method similar to a Twitter account. This has proven to be both a blessing and a curse for Telegram and its users, since these channels can be used for both good and ill. Right now, as Wired reports, the app is a key way for Ukrainians to receive updates from the government during the invasion. The original Telegram channel has expanded into a web of accounts for different locations, including specific pages made for individual Russian cities. There's also an English-language website, which states it is owned by the people who run the Telegram channels. The War on Fakes channel has repeatedly attempted to push conspiracies that footage from Ukraine is somehow being falsified. One post on the channel from February 24 claimed without evidence that a widely viewed photo of a Ukrainian woman injured in an airstrike in the city of Chuhuiv was doctored and that the woman was seen in a different photo days later without injuries. The post, which has over 600,000 views, also baselessly claimed that the woman's blood was actually makeup or grape juice. This ability to mix the public and the private, as well as the ability to use bots to engage with users has proved to be problematic. In early 2021, a database selling phone numbers pulled from Facebook was selling numbers for $20 per lookup. Similarly, security researchers found a network of deepfake bots on the platform that were generating images of people submitted by users to create non-consensual imagery, some of which involved children.
