دولت با ارسال لایحه‌ای به مجلس قصد دارد تغییراتی در احکام مدنی مربوط به تابعیت ایجاد کند. مهم‌ترین تغییرات این لایحه به دادن تابعیت به فرزندان حاصل از مادران ایرانی و پدران غیر ایرانی و همچنین نخبگان و سرمایه گذاران خارجی اختصاص دارد.
یک‌شنبه ۱۷ تیرماه سید محمود حسینی‌پور سرپرست معاونت پارلمانی ریاست جمهوری از ارسال لایحه «اصلاح تابعیت» به مجلس خبر داد. به گفته حسینی‌پورقانونی که برای ممنوعیت تصدی سمت‌های حساس از سوی افراد دو یا چند تابعیتی تصویب شده، ضوابط قانونی حاکم بر این افراد را تحت تاثیر قرار داده و دولت با تهیه این لایحه به دنبال ایجاد هماهنگی در این زمینه است.
بر اساس این لایحه که با امضای محمد مخبر سرپرست ریاست جمهوری به مجلس شورای اسلامی ارسال شد، قرار است بعد از ۹۰ سال مواد ۹۷۶ تا ۹۹۱ جلد دوم کتاب قانون مدنی مصوب ۲۷ بهمن ۱۳۱۳ اصلاح شود.
