В Сталинградской битве приняли участие сотни тысяч бойцов и командиров. Более 700 тыс. фронтовиков получили медаль «За оборону Сталинграда».
В числе защитников города 1283 уроженца Адыгеи - 475 наших земляков погибли. В память о них на Мамаевом кургане в Волгограде установлена стела с надписями на русском и адыгском языках «Вечная слава сыновьям и дочерям Адыгеи - защитникам Сталинграда».
