После Первой Мировой Данциг (ныне Гданьск) с 95% немецкого населения был отторгнут от Германии, но в состав Польши не включен. Город остался под управлением Лиги наций. Считалось, что через некоторое время в городе будет проведен референдум, который и определит его принадлежность.
Очень странно, что именно поляки предложили этот вариант. В прошлый раз результат такого компромисса им совсем не понравился.
