Этот крошечный хищник высотой всего около 15 сантиметров начинает напевать свою песню в начале марта, привлекая невесту на свою территорию. Воробьиные сычики образуют крепкие пары.
Воробьиный сычик занесен в Красную книгу Петербурга – в городе гнездится всего около десяти пар.
