This vase, which was displayed on February 23rd, 1944, was followed by dozens of other works, including the Falcon that earned Sotnikov the Grand Prix of the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair (this sculpture is familiar to all of us through its graphic representation, which serves as a logo of Dulyovo Porcelain Factory). It seems fitting, however, to show you a series of war-related sculptures that Sotnikov began creating when he was recovering from a wound. He carried his first figurines in his duffel bag and turned them into porcelain miniatures upon his return to Dulyovo. Some of Sotnikov’s sculptures were reportedly presented to military personnel together with combat decorations.

Given the pro-privacy stance of the platform, it’s taken as a given that it’ll be used for a number of reasons, not all of them good. And Telegram has been attached to a fair few scandals related to terrorism, sexual exploitation and crime. Back in 2015, Vox described Telegram as “ISIS’ app of choice,” saying that the platform’s real use is the ability to use channels to distribute material to large groups at once. Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations. Following this, Sebi, in an order passed in January 2022, established that the administrators of a Telegram channel having a large subscriber base enticed the subscribers to act upon recommendations that were circulated by those administrators on the channel, leading to significant price and volume impact in various scrips. Artem Kliuchnikov and his family fled Ukraine just days before the Russian invasion. During the operations, Sebi officials seized various records and documents, including 34 mobile phones, six laptops, four desktops, four tablets, two hard drive disks and one pen drive from the custody of these persons. One thing that Telegram now offers to all users is the ability to “disappear” messages or set remote deletion deadlines. That enables users to have much more control over how long people can access what you’re sending them. Given that Russian law enforcement officials are reportedly (via Insider) stopping people in the street and demanding to read their text messages, this could be vital to protect individuals from reprisals.
