Здесь в древности пролегали пути во Владимир и Коломну. Там же с XV века располагались мастерские кузнецов, гончаров и других ремесленников.

В 1798 году богатейший русский оружейник Иван Баташев получил землю в свое владение и построил дворец в духе русского классицизма.
