15 февраля - День памяти воинов-интернационалистов.
Дата выбрана не случайно: 15 февраля 1989 года завершился вывод советских войск из Афганистана, закончилась Афганская война (1979-1989).
В ходе этой кампании, 86 солдатам и офицерам было присвоено звание Героя Советского Союза.
Среди них - командир разведки 101 мотострелкового полка, уроженец с. Верещаки Новозыбковского района, Фёдор Иванович Пугачев и командир 50 отдельного смешанного авиаполка, уроженец д. Белоголовичи Трубчевского района, Виталий Егорович Павлов.
Ф.И. Пугачев провел десятки успешных операций, 4 раза был ранен. В.Е. Павлов совершил в Афганистане 307 боевых вылетов.
