Слово отражает главные культурные и общественные тенденции уходящего года. В пресс-службе института заявили РБК, что выбор основан на анализе СМИ, соцсетей и поисковых запросов. По данным Wordstat, за последний месяц число запросов имени «Пушкин» в поисковой строке превысило 10 млн.
В пятерку слов года также вошли «семья», «искусственный интеллект», «выборы» и «квадробер».

At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. Similarly, security researchers found a network of deepfake bots on the platform that were generating images of people submitted by users to create non-consensual imagery, some of which involved children. But because group chats and the channel features are not end-to-end encrypted, Galperin said user privacy is potentially under threat. "He has to start being more proactive and to find a real solution to this situation, not stay in standby without interfering. It's a very irresponsible position from the owner of Telegram," she said. Just days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Durov wrote that Telegram was "increasingly becoming a source of unverified information," and he worried about the app being used to "incite ethnic hatred."
