Застраиваться он стал только в первые десятилетия XX века. Тогда за городскую черту Кёнигсберга стали выносить промышленные предприятия. И в 1906 году руководство вагонной фабрики «Штайнфурт» выступило с инициативой возведения поблизости жилого поселка для своих рабочих и служащих.
