Session #n50: DESCRIBING OBJECTS

Descriptions of objects can be found in leaflets, catalogues, advertisements or parts of letters, stories, reports or articles.

πŸ‘Œ When you describe an object, you should give an accurate picture of it.
Your description should include information about:

βœ”οΈ size,
βœ”οΈ weight (e. g. tiny, big, heavy, long, etc),
βœ”οΈ shape (e,g, circular, oval, etc),
βœ”οΈ pattern or decoration (e.g. plain, checked, etc),
βœ”οΈ colour (e.g. brown, multi-coloured, etc),
βœ”οΈ origin (e.g. African, Japanese, etc) and
βœ”οΈ material (e.g. leather, plastic, nylon, etc),
as well as any information concerning special features (e.g. lock, stickers, etc).

πŸŒ€ To describe objects you should use a variety of adjectives. Always list opinion adjectives (e.g. beautiful, inexpensive, unusual, etc) first, followed by fact adjectives.

These are normally listed in the following order: size/ weight, age, shape, pattern, colour, origin or material (e. g. large, rectangular, silver, etc).
Avoid using all of them one after the other, as this will make your description sound unnatural

- e. g. Instead of writing: It's a lovely, heavy, old, oval mirror with a carved wooden frame ...
you could write: It's a lovely, heavy, old mirror. It's oval, with a carved frame made of wood.

Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

Date: |

Pavel Durov, Telegram's CEO, is known as "the Russian Mark Zuckerberg," for co-founding VKontakte, which is Russian for "in touch," a Facebook imitator that became the country's most popular social networking site. In 2014, Pavel Durov fled the country after allies of the Kremlin took control of the social networking site most know just as VK. Russia's intelligence agency had asked Durov to turn over the data of anti-Kremlin protesters. Durov refused to do so. Despite Telegram's origins, its approach to users' security has privacy advocates worried. As the war in Ukraine rages, the messaging app Telegram has emerged as the go-to place for unfiltered live war updates for both Ukrainian refugees and increasingly isolated Russians alike. "He has to start being more proactive and to find a real solution to this situation, not stay in standby without interfering. It's a very irresponsible position from the owner of Telegram," she said.
