Россия и Иран заключили договор о стратегическом партнерстве. 17 января президенты России и Ирана Владимир Путин и Масуд Пезешкиан по итогам переговоров в Москве подписали двусторонний Договор о всеобъемлющем стратегическом партнерстве. Сейчас отношения России и Ирана опираются на Договор об основах взаимоотношений и принципах сотрудничества. Его подписали в 2001 году, каждые пять лет он автоматически продлевается.
