As it turns out, "філіжанка", meaning "tea or coffee cup" isn't like your average Slavic word that boringly descends from a Proto-Slavic form which then evolved over the centuries. No, not at all! This term has actually traveled the globe, hailing from a land most of our forefathers weren't even aware of)
Our story starts in the Middle East, with the Classical Persian word پنگان (pengân), meaning: cup, bowl and water clock. This was then borrowed by Arabic فنجان (finjān), where it only meant "cup". This was then reborrowed by Persian as فنجان (fenjân), this time only meaning "cup", unlike the earlier Classical Persian form.

Its influence extends beyond the platform, with major Russian publications, government officials, and journalists citing the page's posts. Stocks dropped on Friday afternoon, as gains made earlier in the day on hopes for diplomatic progress between Russia and Ukraine turned to losses. Technology stocks were hit particularly hard by higher bond yields. Russian President Vladimir Putin launched Russia's invasion of Ukraine in the early-morning hours of February 24, targeting several key cities with military strikes. "Russians are really disconnected from the reality of what happening to their country," Andrey said. "So Telegram has become essential for understanding what's going on to the Russian-speaking world."
