Борт а/к Delta Airlines (рейс 1163) получил разрешение на взлёт без задержки (no delay on the roll) с ВПП 30L и набор высоты курсом взлетно-посадочной полосы (fly runway heading), а заходящему на эту же ВПП борту American Airlines (рейс 2406) сразу было выдано разрешение на посадку (cleared to land, runway 30L).
Через незначительный промежуток времени (менее 1 минуты) заходящему борту была выдана команда об уходе на второй круг (go around, left side, runway 30L). На фоне ответа экипажа в эфире слышен звук отключения автопилота.
По данным из открытых источников, минимальный интервал между двумя ВС составил 200 футов по вертикали и 0.14 морских миль по горизонтали.
Вылетевший борт успешно долетел до пункта назначения, а ушедший на второй круг вскоре приземлился.
