‘Hello, I'm Bez, an anarchist who has been helping anti-authoritarian fighters at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. For more than a year now, I myself have been fighting in the Defence Forces. I just joined the newly created unit to counter enemy UAVs. Even though our team is new, we are already performing combat missions in Donetsk region. But as is the case with new units, we lack a lot of things. Most of all, we need the pick-up truck. We need your support - help us save lives!’
So, without delay, we are launching a fundraising campaign for 10,000 euros. We ask for your support.

At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. He adds: "Telegram has become my primary news source." The gold standard of encryption, known as end-to-end encryption, where only the sender and person who receives the message are able to see it, is available on Telegram only when the Secret Chat function is enabled. Voice and video calls are also completely encrypted. Update March 8, 2022: EFF has clarified that Channels and Groups are not fully encrypted, end-to-end, updated our post to link to Telegram’s FAQ for Cloud and Secret chats, updated to clarify that auto-delete is available for group and channel admins, and added some additional links. But Kliuchnikov, the Ukranian now in France, said he will use Signal or WhatsApp for sensitive conversations, but questions around privacy on Telegram do not give him pause when it comes to sharing information about the war.
