Художник использует очень тонкую бумагу васи, которая, вопреки распространённому мнению, делается не из риса, а из коры нескольких сортов кустарника. Причем делается вручную, в небольших семейных мастерских, так что хорошая бумага стоит в половину стоимости гравюры.
