С момента основания Московский государственный архив находился в Кремле, в Сенатском дворце. Со временем архив расширялся и менял свое место нахождение несколько раз, пока не было построено отдельное здание.

Сейчас в здании всё так же располагается Государственный архив РФ, где хранятся исторические документы и периодически проходят тематические выставки, которые можно посетить совершенно бесплатно.

Попасть в здание можно только во время прохождения выставок и с предьявлением паспорта.

В настоящее время проходит выставка детских рисунков на тему ВОВ, а также исторических документов, писем и дневников детей войны.
