I am looking for a new Ph.D. student in robotics for my lab in Bonn. If you are interested, please apply by January 18, 2025.
The Photogrammetry & Robotics Lab (Stachniss-Lab) at the University of Bonn, Germany, headed by Prof. Dr. Cyrill Stachniss, is looking for a motivated and highly capable Ph.D. student (f/m/d) and explicitly encourages women to apply.
TYPE OF POSITION: Fully funded position (E13), 100% employment
APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 18, 2025
TARGETED START DATE: Marco or April 2025
LOCATION: Bonn, Germany
OUR EXPECTATIONS:
We are looking for highly motivated and highly capable team players who want to earn a Ph.D. degree in engineering and work with mobile robots. The Ph.D. student's main goals should be to develop novel robotic solutions, push the state of the art in robotics and perception forward, and disseminate their findings. This involves the following: First, developing new solutions to relevant problems, involving theoretical contributions as well as coding. Second, evaluating the proposed systems using real sensor data, running them on a real robot, and the ability to demonstrate the approach live. Third, disseminating the results in the form of papers at high-quality conferences/journals and by publishing code. The candidates should identify themselves with our research lab and their project, be interested in working with real robots and sensors, support the other team members, and engage in and establish joint activities. Finally, the Ph.D. students should support our teaching activities and guide other students.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Master's degree in computer science, robotics, geodesy, electrical engineering, or similar (a B.Sc. degree alone is not sufficient).
* A background (e.g., MSc thesis, specialization, or in-depth courses) in robotics, machine learning, or computer vision/photogrammetry.
* Strong coding capabilities. Relevant languages are C++ and Python.
* Very good English language skills. Knowledge of the German language is not required.
HOW TO APPLY:
* Send your application as a single PDF file (only this information will be considered), smaller than 8 MB by email to Cyrill Stachniss ([email protected]) before the deadline indicated above.
* Your single PDF file should contain:
(a) Your CV (approx. 2-6 pages)
(b) List of courses you have attended that are related to topics of the lab
(c) Motivation letter (max 1 page)
(d) Transcript of records
(e) Link to the PDF file of your MSc thesis and/or papers you may have written
(f) Links to your personal website, your Github page, and Google Scholar profile
** (g) Name, email, and phone number of two referees (professors or senior researchers you have worked with) to whom we can reach out

The Department of Kinesiology at Kansas State University invites applications from highly motivated students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in child and youth physical activity behavior. The selected candidate will work under the mentorship of Dr. Peter Stoepker and Dr. Denver Brown. This training experience offers a unique blend of hands-on data collection and opportunities for secondary data analysis. Students with a background in behavioral science, public health, epidemiology, or community physical activity programming are strongly encouraged to apply. Dr. Stoepker's research focus is to find solutions in creating a more active and healthy whole school and community environment. His research focuses on using the power of data to support out-of-school time programs in addressing child physical activity and motor competence. He is a current member of the national Active Schools USA Research Alliance and Director of Active Schools Lab. Dr. Brown's research focuses on enhancing the health and well-being of children and youth by promoting active, healthy lifestyles. His current work focuses on two main areas: 1) application and refinement of theories of physical activity behavior; and 2) examining how daily time-use patterns (i.e., physical activity, sleep, sedentary behavior) contribute to the onset and progression of mental health disorders. He is currently a member of the International Network of Time-Use Epidemiologists and Director of the INfant. Child and youth Health (INCH) Lab. Life in Manhattan, KS, offers a vibrant blend of small-town charm and big opportunities, making it a fantastic place for graduate students. K-State's close-knit environment ensures you'll connect with peers and mentors, creating a supportive atmosphere for both academic and personal growth. Applications are due to by Feb. 1, 2025. For more information about the PhD program, please visit: Ph.D. in Kinesiology Interested candidates with questions about the program are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Stoepker ([email protected]) or Dr. Brown ([email protected]). We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming a new member to our team!
