🧬حدود ۶۱ روز پیش یک خانم آمریکایی کلیه‌ی اصلاح‌شده‌ی ژنتیکی خوک را دریافت و تا امروز زنده است.
🔹 پیش‌از این اولین بیمار دریافت‌کننده کلیه اصلاح‌شده خوک تقریباً ٢ ماه پس از جراحی درگذشته بود. «تووانا لونی» اکنون تنها انسان زنده‌ای است که کلیه خوک در بدن او قرار دارد. ۴ فرد آمریکایی دیگر که اعضای اصلاح‌شده ژنتیکی خوک (٢ قلب و ٢ کلیه) دریافت کرده بودند، هیچ‌کدام بیش از ۲ ماه زنده نماندند.
🔹دکتر «رابرت مونتگومری» که رهبری تیم پیوند کلیه لونی را برعهده دارد، عملکرد کلیه لونی را «کاملاً طبیعی» ارزیابی کرده است. پزشکان امیدوارند او بتواند حدود یک ماه دیگر، نیویورک را به مقصد خانه‌اش در آلاباما ترک کند.
