🇬🇧 Our trip on Baikal has started! :)

Look what an unusual ice landscapes we found on the frozen lake! In Holland I’ve often seen ice and walked and ice skated on it, but I never saw ice climbing up. And not just a little bit but whole fields of ice climbing up and making these beautiful sculptures. Beautiful!

Ice climbs up, because Baikal is alive. The water if moving all the time, and the ice also. Because of weather conditions (or just because Baikal decides so), at any location there can appear cracks in the ice, or the other way around: ice bumping into each other and climbing up.

What’s also beautiful, is that the ice is crystal clear! It’s the clearest and cleanest water and ice :) Interesting also, that there is not just transparent ice, but also turquoise ice! Such ice can be formed due to changes in pressure and temperature.

Now we continue our drive on the ice and will look for such clear ice without snow.

Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

Date: |

Telegram was co-founded by Pavel and Nikolai Durov, the brothers who had previously created VKontakte. VK is Russia’s equivalent of Facebook, a social network used for public and private messaging, audio and video sharing as well as online gaming. In January, SimpleWeb reported that VK was Russia’s fourth most-visited website, after Yandex, YouTube and Google’s Russian-language homepage. In 2016, Forbes’ Michael Solomon described Pavel Durov (pictured, below) as the “Mark Zuckerberg of Russia.” Friday’s performance was part of a larger shift. For the week, the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell 2%, 2.9%, and 3.5%, respectively. That hurt tech stocks. For the past few weeks, the 10-year yield has traded between 1.72% and 2%, as traders moved into the bond for safety when Russia headlines were ugly—and out of it when headlines improved. Now, the yield is touching its pandemic-era high. If the yield breaks above that level, that could signal that it’s on a sustainable path higher. Higher long-dated bond yields make future profits less valuable—and many tech companies are valued on the basis of profits forecast for many years in the future. "The inflation fire was already hot and now with war-driven inflation added to the mix, it will grow even hotter, setting off a scramble by the world’s central banks to pull back their stimulus earlier than expected," Chris Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS, wrote in an email. "A spike in inflation rates has preceded economic recessions historically and this time prices have soared to levels that once again pose a threat to growth." And while money initially moved into stocks in the morning, capital moved out of safe-haven assets. The price of the 10-year Treasury note fell Friday, sending its yield up to 2% from a March closing low of 1.73%.
