جلال متینی، رئیس اسبق دانشگاه فردوسی مشهد و پژوهشگر برجسته تاریخ و ادبیات ایران، در مریلند آمریکا درگذشت.
جلال متینی که بین سال‌های ۱۳۵۴ تا ۱۳۵۶ ریاست دانشگاه فردوسی را بر عهده داشت، پس از انقلاب پنجاه و هفت به آمریکا مهاجرت کرد و در دانشگاه برکلی کالیفرنیا به تدریس پرداخت. او که در زمینه شاهنامه‌پژوهی فعال بود،آثار ارزشمندی در این حوزه و فرهنگ ایران از خود به یادگار گذاشت و مجلات تخصصی «ایران‌شناسی» و «ایران‌نامه» را منتشر کرد. خلاصه بیژن و منیژه فردوسی، خلاصه ویس و رامین فخرالدین اسعد گرگانی، خلاصه لیلی و مجنون نظامی و پند پیران، متنی فارسی به ظاهر از قرن پنجم هجری و ده‌ها اثر گوناگون به زبان‌های فارسی و انگلیسی از جمله آثار او می‌باشد.
