Впервые в жизни получил огромные деньги не за концерты, а гигантский тираж грампластинок «Мелодии». Проехал с официальными гастролями по всему СССР, бывшему соцлагерю, а потом и всему остальному миру. Встретился с нашими солдатами в Афганистане. Написал несколько новых сильных песен. В 1990-е ушёл из театра. Недолго побыл депутатом Госдумы 3-ого созыва от «Единой России». Стал совладельцем трех московских ресторанов...
