The perpetrators use various names to carry out the investment scams. The post, which has over 600,000 views, also baselessly claimed that the woman's blood was actually makeup or grape juice. "He has kind of an old-school cyber-libertarian world view where technology is there to set you free," Maréchal said. "And that set off kind of a battle royale for control of the platform that Durov eventually lost," said Nathalie Maréchal of the Washington advocacy group Ranking Digital Rights. He floated the idea of restricting the use of Telegram in Ukraine and Russia, a suggestion that was met with fierce opposition from users. Shortly after, Durov backed off the idea.
