Вариант можно дифференцировать с помощью ПЦР, виден его стремительный рост в Гаутенге и распространение по всем южноафриканским провинциям.

Первичный анализ набора мутаций дает основания предполагать у нового варианта сильное иммунное ускользание, повышенную трансмиссивность и инфекционность.
