الشيخ أخذ ثياب الزائر وغسلها بنفسه بدون أي تكبر أو تبطر، وجاء بنفسه بالثياب إلى الزائر حسب الوقت المتفق عليه في صحن أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام فسلمها إلى الزائر، أعطى الزائر أموالاً إلى الشيخ قبال غسله الملابس فامتنع الشيخ من أخذها. فأخبر أحد الناس الزائر بأن هذا المقدّس الأردبيليّ، فوقع على الأرض معتذراً منه وأخذ الناس يلومون الزائر على فعلته.
فقال الأردبيليّ: لا بأس عليك، إن حقوق إخواننا المؤمنين أعظم من أن يقابل بها غسل ثياب.
