18 марта 1974 года — день принятия на вооружение АК-74 и РПК-74!

В этот день Постановлением ЦК КПСС и Совета Министров СССР на вооружение Советской армии были приняты автомат АК-74 и ручной пулемет РПК-74, созданные легендарным конструктором Михаилом Тимофеевичем Калашниковым.

АК-74 стал дальнейшим развитием знаменитого АКМ, но под новый малоимпульсный патрон 5,45×39 мм. Практически все характеристики автомата были улучшены: повысились точность, кучность стрельбы и эффективность в бою.

Впервые АК-74 был применён в Афганистане, а затем использовался во всех конфликтах на постсоветском пространстве. Сегодня этот автомат остается одним из самых популярных в мире и используется армиями большинства стран Восточной Европы и Азии.
