🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Russian-Indonesian diplomatic relations (Moscow, February 3, 2025)
💬 Sergey Lavrov: Welcome to the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Russia-Indonesia diplomatic relations.
I would like to thank senior officials and staff from the Ministry’s Department of History and Records and from the Third Asian Department for their highly professional efforts to set up this event. The unique documents and photographs will provide an overview of the highlights of our relations.
🇷🇺🇮🇩 Russian-Indonesian diplomatic relations were established 7️⃣5️⃣ years ago on this day, February 3, 1950. From the earliest days, contacts between our countries relied on high levels of trust, mutual respect and understanding.
Gradually, they evolved into strong ties of friendship between many generations of the people of our two countries. The Soviet Union provided political support to the Indonesian people’s struggle for independence, and was among the first countries to recognise Indonesia as an independent state, and contributed to the development of its statehood.
Soviet specialists built Friendship Hospital, a replica of Moscow Luzhniki Stadium, numerous roads and transport interchanges in Jakarta and other regions of the archipelago. These sites became material symbols of fruitful Soviet-Indonesian cooperation. I can assure you that when I visited Indonesia, I had the chance to see our Indonesian friends continue to proudly and gratefully preserve and use these sites.
Relations between Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and first President of Indonesia Sukarno, who visited the Soviet Union four times in the 1960s, were marked by particular trust. You will have the chance to see the archival photos depicting the main events of those years.
Our multifaceted ties have received a boost lately. We regard Indonesia as an influential power and one of Russia’s key partners in the Asia-Pacific region. We maintain strategic relations. The ongoing political dialogue at the top level underlies our successful relations.
☝️ We place great emphasis on the implementation of the agreements reached during the talks between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto at the Kremlin in July 2024. We hope that more photos from a new meeting of the leaders will replenish our archives soon. We will work hard to make it happen.
<...>
On a separate note, I would also like to note the productive coordination of our efforts in foreign policy, primarily the #UN and other international venues and in the #RussiaASEAN dialogue partnership format. The list of these platforms saw an addition in the form of #BRICS which is a new fast-growing association that enjoys the highest standing in today’s world, which #Indonesia joined as a full-fledged member on January 1. This fact will significantly expand Jakarta’s opportunities to expand international cooperation. <...>
We note with satisfaction that over the past 75 years we have managed to build impressive friendly ties that are based on a solid material, spiritual and historical potential.
🤝 An even greater potential is clearly waiting to be unlocked. Relying on the rich traditions of friendship and mutual sympathy, together with our Indonesian friends, we will continue to do our best to unlock it. We are enriching our relations with new facets for the benefit and to the satisfaction of our peoples and for the good of all humanity.

📄 Article by Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov "Russia-Indonesia: 75 years of cooperation in global affairs" published in The Jakarta Post (04.02.2025)
Key points:
• Indonesia has been and remains one of Russia’s key partners in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. Moscow and Jakarta closely cooperate in the UN, G20, APEC, EAS and ASEAN Regional Forum on Sucurity, as well as within OIC and IORA, where Russia is an observer.
• Russia appreciates Indonesia’s balanced position on the Ukrainian crisis. We count on Jakarta’s constructive contribution to efforts of the «Group of Friends for a Peaceful Settlement of the Ukrainian Crisis», which should also take into account the need to eradicate such roots of the crisis as NATO expansion and the West’s violation of the principle of indivisibility of security.
• The core foundations of the foreign policy of Russia and Indonesia are very similar and aimed at promoting multilateralism, rejecting discriminatory neocolonial practices, unilateral sanctions and countering politicization of activities of specialized international platforms.
• In the G20, Moscow and Jakarta, in particular, advocate for a balanced energy transition and the use of all types of fuel and technologies taking into account economic realities and national specifics.
• I am confident that Indonesia’s accession to BRICS is in its interests. The goals of cooperation within the group are obvious, to ensure the creation of favorable conditions for the economic growth of its members, the solution of social problems, and the development of innovative human potential.

🇷🇺 Interview of Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov to KuatBaca.com (February 4, 2025)
❓Question: If you could describe Indonesia in three words, what would they be?
💬 Ambassador Tolchenov: warm, friendly and very colorful.
Key points:
• Russia is one of the leading countries in the world in the promotion and development of nuclear energy, with significant achievements in this field. Russia was the first country to establish a nuclear power plant. It means that we started to use nuclear energy in peaceful way for peaceful goals. <...> Rosatom and Russia in general are ready to cooperate with Indonesia in this area. We are confident in stating that our nuclear power plants are both safe and efficient.
• Cooperation in the field of education is one of the topic areas in our bilateral relations. <...> This year, we are ready to provide 250 scholarships [to Indonesian students]. We see a strong interest in Russian education because it is of very high quality.
• On January 23-26, 2025, four leading Russian universities showcased their programs at the Indonesia International Education Training Expo 2025. Russia had the biggest number of universities participating in the event.
• We are finalizing the text of the Eurasian Economic Union – Indonesia Free Trade Agreement. In July 2024, we held the final round of negotiations to conclude the agreement. We hope it will foster increased bilateral trade and investment.

🗓 On February 5, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in a roundtable discussion "The Ukraine Crisis: Failed Cancel Culture".
The event, organised by the Diplomatic Academy with the support of the Foreign Ministry of Russia, brought together 95 Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow, as well as international associations.
In his remarks, Sergey Lavrov strongly condemned the attempts by Washington and its European satellites to cancel all things Russian: discriminate against Russian media, ban the use of the Russian language and Russian culture, and falsify historical facts. He pointed out the aggressive Russophobia of the Kiev regime which has launched a campaign to eradicate any trace of Russian cultural presence.
❗️ The Minister stated that the course to isolate Russia had completely failed which is confirmed by large-scale international activities of both the country and its leadership on the global, regional, and bilateral levels. Russia’s leading positions can be reaffirmed by a large number of international scientific, cultural, sports and youth events which are held regularly on its territory as well as student exchanges and projects to promote the Russian language and Russian education.
Sergey Lavrov also highlighted the celebrations to be held in 2025 in honour of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which Russia was preparing to widely celebrate together with its partners.
The participants in the roundtable discussion held a vivid discussion of the Ukrainian crisis and other topical issues on the international agenda.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at the embassy roundtable discussion "The Ukraine crisis: Failed cancel culture" (Moscow, February 5, 2025)
Key points:
💬 The attempt to cancel international law is particularly evident in how the West, the United States, and their allies treat the UN Charter.
👉 Whenever they need, they pick the principle of self-determination of peoples, as they did in the case of Kosovo. When they need to support their underlings and accomplices such as the Nazi regime in Ukraine, they hang on to the principle of territorial integrity and ignore everything that the residents of Crimea, Novorossiya, and Donbass did when they refused to recognise the outcomes of the bloody unconstitutional coup and chose not to live under its rule, which aimed to eradicate everything Russian.
• Unfortunately, the UN Secretariat, including the Secretary-General, is strongly supporting the West in its Ukrainian policies. <...> Antonio Guterres and his top-ranking deputies representing the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other NATO countries in the UN Secretariat, are saying things that the West needs them to say.
• The root cause of this conflict is that the West has purposefully sought for years – not just sought, but made effective steps – to create direct military threats to the Russian Federation right on our borders, on the territory of Ukraine, drawing the country into NATO.
• As the West had done before, they dismissed our reminders about their earlier political commitments under the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe to ensure indivisible security, a principle saying that no one is to strengthen their security at the expense of others, and no organisation in the Euro-Atlantic region is to claim dominance, saying that those were mere political commitments.
• I have no doubt that cancelling journalism and information is another tactic worthy of our Western colleagues’ modern playbook, not to mention that the Russian media outlets are being cancelled, too, just for expressing an alternative point of view. The West has long been fighting dissent.
• We observe an overt desire to cancel our country outright, much as was the case in 1945, when the Second World War had not yet concluded. The summits in Yalta and Potsdam took place then, and the Allies celebrated Victory. Now documents have been published which reveal that the West was preparing plans for an attack on the USSR and its partitioning even before the war in the Pacific had ended. And these plans have now come back to life.
• The head of [UNESCO], Audrey Azoulay, a French citizen, promotes the efforts to make Ukraine the number one item on the agenda, politicising this organisation and refusing to discharge her direct duties, including the protection of journalists’ rights. She remains indifferent to the numerous killings of Russian journalists in the special military operation zone, or to the demolition of historical monuments in Ukraine, including in Odessa.
• A mass campaign is underway to undermine my country’s reputation and whitewash Nazis. We will not allow this to happen. This year in Russia and the CIS is dedicated to Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Victory over Nazism. A large number of events are planned to be held, and we will make sure to keep you informed about them so that you can partake. May 9 is the main date, when Victory Parade will take place. Many invited guests, including our friends, neighbours, and allies from the CIS and many other countries, confirmed their attendance.

⚡️Comment of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Indonesia
✍️ We have noticed the article by Ukrainian Ambassador V.Hamianin titled «Global attention, care needed as now wars are isolated» published in The Jakarta Post on February 7, 2025. Without any hesitation, he claims that «everything changed overnight» in 2022 after «the Big Aggression». Let us one last time remind the Ukrainian diplomat that the conflict did not begin in 2022.
❗️The root cause lies in the events of the year 2014, when an armed coup d'état, actively supported by the United States and the European Union, brought radical nationalist forces to power in Kiev. Since then, the totalitarian regime in Kiev has been systematically violating human rights, particularly those of ethnic Russians and Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. This has included spreading Russophobia, falsifying history of the Great Patriotic War, glorifying Nazi collaborators, and committing acts of aggression against civilians in the Donbass region. Long before 2022, the people of Donbass had lost hope in any protection of their rights by the Ukrainian state, facing ongoing violence and repression. Why did no one ever talk about uniting «for the sake of humanity, justice, peace», but instead resorted to shelling and continues to shell peaceful towns and villages, killing civilians in Donbass, the Kursk region, and other parts of Russia?
👉 We note that V.Hamianin has finally recognized, albeit at the end of his short tenure in Indonesia, that the world has grown weary of the narrative portraying Ukraine as a perpetual victim and Russia as the sole aggressor. To help him grasp the full picture, we clarify that what people are truly tired of are Zelensky's fabrications, the Kiev regime's belligerent policies, and the West's double standards, which have both ignited and prolonged this conflict.
⛔️ Additionally, V.Hamianin wonders «how much poorer has the world become since the war». It is crucial to emphasize that the anti-Russian sanctions and restrictive measures imposed by the collective West have become the primary cause of many of the current global economic problems, including energy and food crises. These sanctions have severely disrupted global supply chains, destabilized trade and investment flows, worsened the debt burden for many nations, and reduced access to critical goods, services, financing, and technology. By undermining the principles of fair competition and triggering geoeconomic fragmentation, the West's policies have divided the global economy into isolated blocs and deepened economic inequality.
So, there is no need to do anything extraordinary. Just stop being NATO's proxy and look at the real aspirations of all the people living in Ukraine, regardless of language, religion, or views, and this will end all the hostilities. This, as a matter of fact, is easy to see even from Congo.

🇷🇺 Interview of Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov to Liputan6 (February 10, 2025)
Key points:
• Indonesia can amplify the voice of BRICS on the global stage because it is an important player with a large economy and vast prospects. Indonesia is pursuing a free and independent policy, and this is exactly what BRICS stands for. BRICS is simply a group of like-minded countries that would like to promote independent policy.
• The main goal of BRICS is to create a more democratic, fair, and multipolar world order, <…> where each country can freely express its position and where illegal sanctions against sovereign nations will not be imposed.
• It is NATO that has, for decades, been moving closer and closer to the borders of the Russian Federation. This violates the promises <...> not to deploy NATO troops in Eastern Europe.
• We aim to increase the number of Indonesian students studying in Russia. We have already taken practical steps to achieve this goal and will continue to expand these efforts gradually. There are already significant Indonesian communities in various Russian cities, such as Tomsk, where there is more than 100 Indonesian students.
