The gas is yet another indicator that Israel is using the genocide to enable resource exploitation among its other interests. This gas lies in Palestinian waters and as an occupying power, Israel is violating international law by giving the rights to these gas field to BP, Chevron and Eni. These are the same companies that have devastated the people, environment and economies of many countries in the global south, who have suffered irreversibly consequences of their operations. This settler-colonial regime will be forcing the impacts of the imperial and neo-colonial fossil fuel industry on the Palestinian people.
GSU has begun a campaign against this industry, using several strategies and tactics such as research, knowledge sharing and targeting of industry players. These include companies and governments of Egypt, Jordan, the European Union and others involved in this destructive, militarised and illegal gas extraction. We invite GSU to talk about the dire need for a critical campaign such as this one, share information on the industry and discuss potential for support.

Telegram has gained a reputation as the “secure” communications app in the post-Soviet states, but whenever you make choices about your digital security, it’s important to start by asking yourself, “What exactly am I securing? And who am I securing it from?” These questions should inform your decisions about whether you are using the right tool or platform for your digital security needs. Telegram is certainly not the most secure messaging app on the market right now. Its security model requires users to place a great deal of trust in Telegram’s ability to protect user data. For some users, this may be good enough for now. For others, it may be wiser to move to a different platform for certain kinds of high-risk communications. In the past, it was noticed that through bulk SMSes, investors were induced to invest in or purchase the stocks of certain listed companies. Channels are not fully encrypted, end-to-end. All communications on a Telegram channel can be seen by anyone on the channel and are also visible to Telegram. Telegram may be asked by a government to hand over the communications from a channel. Telegram has a history of standing up to Russian government requests for data, but how comfortable you are relying on that history to predict future behavior is up to you. Because Telegram has this data, it may also be stolen by hackers or leaked by an internal employee. Following this, Sebi, in an order passed in January 2022, established that the administrators of a Telegram channel having a large subscriber base enticed the subscribers to act upon recommendations that were circulated by those administrators on the channel, leading to significant price and volume impact in various scrips. The next bit isn’t clear, but Durov reportedly claimed that his resignation, dated March 21st, was an April Fools’ prank. TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych.
