Работы стартуют в следующем году. Также планируется удлинение ВПП с 1,5 до 2,5 тыс. метров, замена светосигнального и оборудования управления воздушным движением. Аэропорт сможет принимать не только Як-40 (крупнейшим эксплуатантом которых является "Вологодское авиапредприятие"), но и ВС большего класса.
На время реконструкции аэропорт Вологды будет закрыт. Инвестиции в проект оцениваются в 11,8 млрд руб. Финансироваться будет областным правительством при федеральной поддержке. Работы должны завершиться в 2027 году.
Старое здание аэровокзала обновлять не будут, в нем откроется музей.
