В минувшем десятилетии издающийся в Нью-Йорке онлайн-журнал об искусстве «Hyperallergic» опубликовал подборку жутких и довольно странных для нас рождественских открыток, издававшихся на Западе на рубеже XIX и XX веков. Оказывается, тогда в Западной Европе считалось вполне нормальным подарить на Рождество открытку с нарисованными чертями, дохлыми птицами или лягушками. Только в 1880 году было напечатано 11,5 миллиона подобного рода открыток с пожеланием счастливого Рождества. Считается, что часто эти рисунки имели социальный подтекст: например, мёртвые воробушки, якобы, напоминали людям бедных детей, умирающих от холода и голода на зимних улицах. Может быть и так, однако ряд открыток вызывают откровенное недоумение — в них нет ничего социального. Как нет ничего христианского — скорее наоборот.

He did, however, walk back this plan when it became clear that they had also become a vital communications tool for Ukrainian officials and citizens to help coordinate their resistance and evacuations. "Your messages about the movement of the enemy through the official chatbot … bring new trophies every day," the government agency tweeted. Telegram, which does little policing of its content, has also became a hub for Russian propaganda and misinformation. Many pro-Kremlin channels have become popular, alongside accounts of journalists and other independent observers. Given the pro-privacy stance of the platform, it’s taken as a given that it’ll be used for a number of reasons, not all of them good. And Telegram has been attached to a fair few scandals related to terrorism, sexual exploitation and crime. Back in 2015, Vox described Telegram as “ISIS’ app of choice,” saying that the platform’s real use is the ability to use channels to distribute material to large groups at once. Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations.
