На выставке представлены более 30 французских каминных часов конца XVIII — начала XIX века. Предметы демонстрируют не только достижения часовой механики того времени. Они — непревзойденные произведения декоративно-прикладного искусства, показывающие мастерство французских дизайнеров и бронзовщиков.
Композиции, украшающие каминные часы, отсылают к античной мифологии, историческим событиям и сюжетам рыцарских романов. Основным персонажем аллегорических композиций «Любовь властвует над Временем», «Надежда питает Любовь» выступает Амур (Эрот), бог Любви, владыка Эфира и победитель своего антагониста Хроноса. Хронос, воплощавший Время, в эпоху Ренессанса изображался в образе старца с косой — символа бренности и был очень популярной фигурой в оформлении часовых приборов.
