The retired agent, known by the pseudonym Gabriel, revealed that preparations for this operation began in 2022:

"Mossad learned two years ago that Hezbollah was purchasing pagers from the Taiwanese company Gold Apollo and began planning. This was only the second phase of a process that had been in preparation for 10 years".
