A partir de hoy entra en vigor en España un nuevo registro de datos de turistas. Hoteles, hostales, apartamentos turísticos, agencias de alquiler de coches y otras empresas estarán obligados a recopilar y transmitir los datos de sus clientes a través de una plataforma especial. El registro incluirá información personal, detalles de la estancia y pagos, incluyendo números de tarjetas de crédito.
El Ministerio del Interior asegura que esta medida es esencial para combatir el crimen organizado y el terrorismo. Sin embargo, representantes del sector turístico critican la iniciativa, calificándola de "excesiva" y de generar obstáculos adicionales para los negocios. Algunas agencias y hoteles ya están preparando demandas legales, alegando riesgos de violaciones a la privacidad y a la Ley de Protección de Datos.
Pese a la resistencia, el registro ya se utiliza activamente: en noviembre se registraron 4,8 millones de entradas, lo que permitió localizar a 18.500 personas con órdenes de arresto activas. No obstante, el sector empresarial sigue insistiendo en la revisión de estas normas, argumentando que esta carga adicional podría disuadir a los turistas.
