Some Democratic groups, like MoveOn.Org and Human Rights Campaign, are posting far less on Twitter — if not leaving the site completely for Bluesky, a left-leaning version of the site with far fewer users and nowhere the same audience reach.
“There is a fight for the attention economy, and today the Republicans are winning. No doubt,” said Dan Sena, a longtime Democratic strategist and former executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

On Telegram’s website, it says that Pavel Durov “supports Telegram financially and ideologically while Nikolai (Duvov)’s input is technological.” Currently, the Telegram team is based in Dubai, having moved around from Berlin, London and Singapore after departing Russia. Meanwhile, the company which owns Telegram is registered in the British Virgin Islands. Ukrainian forces have since put up a strong resistance to the Russian troops amid the war that has left hundreds of Ukrainian civilians, including children, dead, according to the United Nations. Ukrainian and international officials have accused Russia of targeting civilian populations with shelling and bombardments. Two days after Russia invaded Ukraine, an account on the Telegram messaging platform posing as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged his armed forces to surrender. "He has to start being more proactive and to find a real solution to this situation, not stay in standby without interfering. It's a very irresponsible position from the owner of Telegram," she said.
