В Актау потерпел крушение самолёт азербайджанской авиакомпании Azerbaijan Airlines, следовавший из Баку в Грозный. На борту находились 62 пассажира. Во время полёта над акваторией Каспийского моря был подан сигнал чрезвычайной ситуации. Экипаж предпринял попытку экстренной посадки в аэропорту Актау, однако это не удалось, и самолёт упал недалеко от города.

По уточнённым данным Министерства здравоохранения Казахстана, после крушения выжили 12 человек, включая одного ребёнка.
