Действующий президент Ранил Викремесингхе занял третье место, уступив ещё одному оппозиционному политику — Саджиту Премадасу.
Анура Кумара Диссанаяке с 2014 года возглавляет коммунистическую партию Шри-Ланки JVP. Его предвыборная кампания была построена на обещании провести масштабные реформы в стране, в том числе по борьбе с коррупцией.
