В 2024 году всемирный индекс свободы прессы в РФ установлен на уровне 29,8, тогда как в 2021 году он составлял 51,29, и Россия находилась в середине списка.

Сейчас же наши соседи по рейтингу - Афганистан (19,09), КНДР (20,66), Иран (21,30), Китай (23,36).

Россия также находится в лидерах по количеству заключенных в тюрьме.

Согласно подсчетам CPJ Россия занимает 5 место. По репрессиям в отношении профессиональных журналистов уступает лишь Беларуси, Мьянме, Израилю и Китаю.

In February 2014, the Ukrainian people ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, prompting Russia to invade and annex the Crimean peninsula. By the start of April, Pavel Durov had given his notice, with TechCrunch saying at the time that the CEO had resisted pressure to suppress pages criticizing the Russian government.
