The Shitshow Macro Weekly Wrapup podcast for Friday, January 10, 2025 is out:

-Both the post and podcast for the new long form Radically Changing Understanding of the Human Timeline and Experience are now up on the Shitshow Macro sub (link in my X header if you’re not familiar)

Domestic:
-The California fires have laid bare a foundational tragedy of ineptitude and mismanagement at all levels in Los Angeles and Sacramento (Governor’s office).
--Notably, non-LA county areas seem to be managing their fires quite well.
--Yes, I’m IVO one of the big ones, but I’m ok. Thank you to all who reached out to check.
--I’ve mentioned this previously, but California has been in a “home insurance crisis” for over a year due to California politicians being morons who don’t understand how things work.

-It quickly became public that the Los Angeles and California governments made some huge unforced errors, given that annual wildfires and the Santa Ana winds are “known quantities:”
--LAFD firefighters were fired due to not wanting the shot - and LAFD is now undermanned.
--LA decided to give “extra” equipment to Ukraine, which could be of great use right now.
--Yes, LA Mayor Bass did axe almost $18mm from this year's LAFD budget, and a newly released memo shows that she demanded another $40mm be cut before she flew to Ghana before the fires.
--And of course, DEI was a “top priority” for LAFD rather than focusing on training to fight fires, or hiring/promoting based on that singular ability/need.
--The hydrants with no water/pressure were a major factor on the first night of the fires - and it came out today that the Palisades Reservoir was empty when the fires erupted.
--LAFD also had to forgo hydrant pressure testing due to budget cuts.
--And yes, of course, arsonists have been discovered to have been behind at least some of the fires.
--Looting gangs have also, of course, descended upon many of the affected areas.
--What a surprise - the city/state that allowed looting for so long has a looting problem.
--Last year we had an above average amount of rainfall and snow. When that snow melted, it all went into the ocean rather than reservoirs that had been voted/approved to be built in 2014 to collect it, but had not been built yet.
--Anyone who knows anything about anything saw that snow melt running off into the ocean and knew CA politicians would complain about the “drought” that could have been prevented shortly thereafter.
--Keep all of this in mind during the next voting cycle, California. You chose not to vote for competence, and so you got incompetence in spectacular form.

-Tucker released an interview with @nedryun this week, and it’s very much worth the watch to understand the reality of where we are right now.
--I like Ned a lot because he’s not a hyperbolic “influencer.” While his words and approach are measured, he also doesn’t mince words about reality.
--Notably, they discuss at pretty great length the stark reality that our country, in its current form and running, is no longer operating as a Constitutional Republic.
--Many of us knew this, but the “how” and “why” are explained well.
--I also like Ned because he’s not one who simply complains or riles people up like other pundits. He gives potential solutions and outlines of needed pathways to fix things. Please watch:

-On that note, Politico ran a hit piece against Tulis Gabbard’s nomination to ODNI, not realizing how quickly people would figure out the guy they used for it was a “known quantity” lobbyist and facilitator for Al Qaeda and a CIA cutout.

-Acting Judge Merchan required Trump to be in court today (1/10) and gave him no sentence for the Trumped-up charges that kangaroo court ran with. Yes, bad pun totally intended.
--The progressives were overjoyed at first with the “arg arg ree ree ree cOnViCtEd FeLon” talking point they’d been waiting for - until it hit them smack in the face that the vast of the majority of the public doesn’t give a shit and sees the lawfare for what it is.
-The governors of Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, and North Carolina have declared states of emergency over the winter storm that is hitting their states.

-Speaking of natural disasters - while Western NC residents are being denied extensions to their temporary lodging post-Helene and reporting that FEMA isn’t answering their phones, Biden has announced full financial support for the California wildfires.

War/Military:
-The leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has asked Trump to keep US troops in Syria to prevent a resurgence of ISIS.
--Or…he could just shut down that Foggy Bottom funding stream.

-Taiwan is investigating the cutting of an undersea international communications cable that they believe a Chinese freighter is responsible for.
--They had redundancy built into the system so communications were rerouted quickly.

-Some reports are coming out showing aerial surveillance that China may be building and preparing amphibious landing craft, but I don’t see them making the move after Trump comes into office.
--It’s gonna be a long 10 days.

-An attack on the Presidential palace in the nation of Chad has left 19 people dead - 18 of whom were the attackers.
--Some are calling it a Boko Haram or other terrorist attack, but the Chadian gov is saying they were intoxicated youth.

-A Yakuza leader pled guilty in Manhattan this week to trafficking nuclear materials out of Myanmar.

-Acute and chronic leukemias and other types of cancers will now be recognized as presumptive conditions for toxic-exposed veterans of the wars of the Middle East for the past 25 years, especially those who spent time at K2 in Uzbekistan, under the PACT Act.

-Turkish President Erdogan has signaled that he may take imminent action against the US-backed Kurdish YPG group, who makes up a significant portion of the SDF, if he believes that Syria’s “unity is threatened.”

-German Finance Minister Annalena Baerbock traveled to Damascus to cuddle up to the new leadership there. There’s a bit of a controversy because he refused to shake her hand.
--What a surprise - radical Islamists who overthrew a country are conforming to the strict interpretations of Islamist laws.
--Maybe, I don’t know…the German finance minister should focus on her own cratering economy? Just a thought?

Markets/economics:
-The markets all had a pretty rough day on Friday that is being blamed on the jobs numbers, but may have far more to do with the “long tail” treasury yields pushing higher.
--S&P 500 dropped 1.54% Friday, down 0.71% on the week
--NASDAQ dropped 1.63% Friday, down 0.62% on the week
--Russell 2000 dropped 2.22% Friday, down 1.90% on the week
--Crude oil is up 3.58% this week
--Gold is up to $2,717.40 as of Friday
--BTC is still bouncing up and down, at $94,412.98 as of this writing (Friday evening)

-We mentioned the “long tail” of treasuries above. The “long tail” means the longer-dated maturities, while the “short tail” would be the shorter-dated maturities. Here’s the numbers so you can see what I mean:
--13-week bond: 4.2130
--2-year yield futures: 4.3910
--5-year: 4.5930
--10-year: 4.7760
--30-year: 4.9650
--Some of the “tools” used by Treasury can be used to affect the “long tail” or “short tail” in accordance with policy objectives.
--Our Treasury is run by a disingenuous moron (Yellen), and the “long tail” is going haywire as investors are losing trust in the long-term stability of US debt.
--The 10-year above 4.75 is considered a huge “danger zone” for US markets

-Currency pairs to the USD are reasonably stable with regard to where they were on Monday.

Business:
-Department stores Macy’s and Kohl’s are closing 100 stores between them (66 are reported to be from Macy’s alone).
-Meta (Facebook) CEO Zuckerberg made a PR-rehab attempt on Joe Rogan’s show this week, acting as if he is coming clean regarding the Biden administration threatening his platform to censor people.
--It seems, in my opinion, as if he’s merely jumping onto the winds of change rather than coming clean of his own recognizance or having a change of heart.
--That being said, reports are also that he’s axing his censorship department (the “fact checkers”), moving trust and safety (another word for censors) out of California, and the kicker - closing down the DEI department, and even removing tampons from the men’s restrooms at FB offices in San Francisco, Texas, and New York.
--As the wise man once said, “we shall see” (if this tiger really changes his stripes)

-Some reporting is coming out saying that TikTok is refusing to sell to a US ownership structure and would rather leave the market altogether than sell.

-A Federal judge in Texas has ruled that American Airlines violated both Federal law and their fiduciary duty by using the company’s 401(k) plan to push ESG.

Science
The very rare comet G3 ATLAS, which is only visible once every 160,000 years, will appear in the night sky over the next few days.

Geopolitics:
-The German election is scheduled for Feb 23, and if current polling is accurate/holds true, “Pirate” Olaf Sholz is probably not going to remain in office.
--Elon Musk held a “Space” with the Germany AfD party leader, and the entirety of the West’s media lost their minds over it, because it shows that they lied about her, her background, and her views, just as they’ve lied about nearly everything else for quite some time.

-For a brief rundown of the “out with the old” in EU politics, here’s a summary of the current state of affairs from Armstrong Economics:

-Romania now says that their election (that was originally canceled in December) is back on.

-The ousted French-born former president of Georgia (the nation, not US state) had a press conference today to announce that she has set up a “shadow presidency” despite being voted out of office.

-Greenland leaders have announced a willingness to talk to Trump, noting that the “status quo” cannot continue.

Crazy Conspiracy:
The 2025 Conspiracy Theory Bingo Card is filling up pretty quickly.

There’s a word that has long been known to receive massive deboosting anytime it is written on social media, so let’s get a little creative with this one.

Do you remember that pizza shop in DC that weirdly had its owner listed as one of the “50 most powerful people,” and when its website was hacked it revealed a really odd “members only” section, and the owners Instagram page had some very weird, weird, weird stuff on it, and the Wikileaks email dumps showed some strange language being used by these people?

When that was all happening, a guy from NC drove to DC to allegedly figure out if there was anything to all of this weirdness. He popped off a few shots inside the restaurant, and the media went bonkers labeling the theory this guy was following as a threat to all of society, castigating and attacking anyone who dared even mention it or the surrounding stories.

If you remember the Cerno & Tim Pool interview that I linked in the Defining the Deep State post about how “glowies” will purposely derail legitimate questions and conversations to label anyone looking into something as a crazy person, this is one of the most heavily documented cases of it happening.

Anyway, the dude who went to the pizza shop and popped off some shots was just killed by police in North Carolina.

Macro takeaways/lessons from the week:
-The California fires are horrible - believe me, I live here and have a very good understanding of what a Shitshow this will make the next several years to a decade of rebuilding.
The silver lining: the bluest of the blue areas of Los Angeles just got a massive redpill from mother nature about the dangers of voting for virtue signaling over reality & competence.

-Politico using an Al Qaeda/Muslim Brotherhood cutout to attack Tulsi’s nomination to ODNI. They still don’t realize that we know their tricks now, we are smarter than the midwits of the media, and their old bullshit no longer flies.

-The long tail of the US treasuries flying high does not bode well for the US stock market. Stay frosty, head on a swivel, traders.

White pill(s) for the week:
Tucker released another interview on January 6th that I did not think I would like listening to or take nearly as much away from that I did, but it was pretty profound when you really think about what it shows.

Billy Bush, the host who Trump was speaking to in an old interview that launched the infamous “Billy Bush weekend” before the 2016 election outlines an enormous amount of the backstory and what happened that most do not know about.

He goes deep into the big media networks seeking out anything they could to attack Trump, some serious treachery that led to the release of the “Access Hollywood” tape, and the backstabbers who did all they could to destroy and get rid of him.

But within that tale of deceit, on multiple levels, is a story of rebuilding, Faith, and hope.

If one can look at the macro picture, one may see many examples of the same basic narrative arc that are playing out all around us, right now. The Resentfuls, malcontents, and genuinely awful people destroyed the reputations of a lot of good people for their own careers, political advancement, or money.

On many fronts, however, those malcontents are seeing their own power diminish while the good people they tried to ruin have rebuilt, reformed, and are coming back with a vengeance.

There are many tales, stories, books, epic poems, movies, and others that show us how this archetypal tale as old as humanity will play out. And I’m here for it.

Weekend Meditation:
“Eventually, your time will come, and someone else will take your place. Keep this in mind as you go about your day.”
-Marcus Aurelius

Whether you are a “memento mori” type of person, a “this too shall pass” type of person, or a “make your mark on this world” type of person, one thing remains the same: we are not God, and at some point your time in this life will end. Make of it what you can, while you can.

Put more good into this world than you take out of it.
