«Пеплу» неизвестно, добровольно ли Дмитрий Лущиков подписал контракт с Минобороны РФ, но, согласно сайту ФССП, у погибшего на момент подписания контракта накопилось долгов на сумму более 835 тысяч рублей. Возможно, Дмитрий пошёл воевать, чтобы расплатиться с долгами.
Из-за того, что «Пепел» регулярно находит в день более одного погибшего, порядковые номера погибших отстают от их общего количества в сводке. Дмитрий Лущиков— 959-й из 1314 погибших.
