Около 306 года при римском императоре Галерииа за отказ отречься от Христа и принести жертву идолам Феодор был предан истязаниям и осужден на сожжение. Неповреждённое огнём тело святого погребено в Евхаитах, недалеко от Амасии. Затем его мощи перенесли в Царьград; глава же святого находится в Италии, в городе Гаэте.
