Тем временем провели несколько экспериментов с мазутом прямо на берегу. Наглядно показали, что сейчас мазут преимущественно тонет в соленой морской воде и опускается на дно. После нагрева воды до летних температур, плотность мазута уменьшается и он начинает всплывать на поверхность.

На практике это означает, что даже если весь видимый мазут к сезону будет убран с пляжей, летом все равно остается ненулевая вероятность с штормом получить мазутные сгустки на анапских и крымских берегах.
