On the third year mark of the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU Council adopts its 16th package of economic and individual sanctions against russia
The Council agreed on a significant set of 83 listings, consisting of 48 persons and 35 entities responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. In addition, the Council established two new criteria that will allow the EU to impose restrictive measures on individuals and entities that own or operate vessels of Putin’s shadow fleet; and those supporting or benefitting from russia’s military and industrial complex.
The sanctions list includes 74 vessels from third countries that belong to the shadow fleet, circumvent oil price restrictions, support the russian energy sector, or transport military equipment and stolen Ukrainian grain. In total, 153 vessels are now under sanctions.
For the first time, the EU imposed a ban on transactions with credit and financial institutions established outside russia that use the Financial messaging system of the Central bank of russia.
The Council of the EU also added 53 new companies to the list of those directly supporting russia's military-industrial complex in its war against Ukraine. A third of these companies are russian, while the rest are located in third countries (China including Hong Kong, India, Kazakhstan, Singapore Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan) and have been involved in the circumvention of trade restrictions or have engaged in the procurement of sensitive items needed for instance for UAVs and missiles used for russian military operations.
The Council of the EU has decided to suspend the broadcasting licenses of eight Russian media outlets under the permanent control of the Russian leadership and to ban them from broadcasting their content in the EU. These include EADaily / Eurasia Daily, Fondsk, Lenta, NewsFront, RuBaltic, SouthFront, the Strategic Fund for Culture and Krasnaya Zvezda / Tvzvezda.
The EU has also banned any transactions with certain ports, gateways and airports in russia that are used for the transfer of UAVs, missiles and related technologies and components to russia, or for the circumvention of oil price restrictions or other restrictive measures by vessels engaged in irregular and risky maritime transport.
The new sanctions package imposes further restrictions on the export of goods and technologies, including software related to oil and gas exploration, with the aim of further restricting russia's oil and gas exploration and production capacity.
The EU Council also prohibits the provision of temporary storage services for russian oil and petroleum products on EU territory, regardless of the purchase price of the oil and the final destination of these products.
Today’s package includes further restrictive measures on belarus mirroring the trade-related sanctions agreed against russian, as well as other measures such as restrictions concerning the sale or provision of services and software, deposits and crypto-asset wallets, and transports.
The Council introduced today new restrictions in Crimea and Sevastopol, and in the non-government controlled areas of Ukraine in the oblasts of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhia, with the objective of inhibiting their integration into the russian federation, and preventing circumvention of EU sanctions

Today, on the third anniversary of the full-scale russian invasion, the Support Ukraine summit was held in Kyiv, attended by more than 40 heads of state and government, EU institutions and international organizations
The summit saw an important statement from the leaders of: Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine, as well as the prime ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, unequivocally condemning russia's illegal, unprovoked and unjustified full-scale invasion of Ukraine. And confirming unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Aid packages were also announced from the UK – 4.5 billion pounds sterling, Denmark – 270 million euros, Norway – 3.5 billion euros per year, Spain – 1 billion euros per year, and Canada – 20 armored vehicles and F-16 trainers

6 CRUISE MISSILE AND 133 ENEMY UAVs SHOT DOWN
On the night of February 25, 2025 (from 19:00 on February 24), the enemy attacked with 213 strike UAVs and also struck with 7 Kh-101 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS strategic aircrafts.
The shooting down of 6 Kh-101 cruise missiles and 133 strike UAVs was confirmed, another 79 were lost in location (without negative consequences).
The Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions suffered as a result of the enemy attack
