ومن أنعم النظر في تراجم نوابغ العلماء ودرس حياتهم حقّ دراستها لا يلبث أن يزول عجبه إذا شاهد كيف كانوا يستغرقون في أعمالهم ويتفانون فيما أخذوا به نفوسهم فيزهدون في المال والبنين ويفطمون أنفسهم عن حُبّ المناصب والمراتب والزخارف والسفاسف"
