Именно в этом месте – небольшом трёхкилометровом участке фронта к югу от Ленинграда – бойцы Красной армии с первых дней блокады сдерживали численно превосходящие их силы противника, не позволяя нацистам и их союзникам приблизиться к городу.
Ленинград смог выдержать почти 900-дневное окружение. Его осада войсками нацистской Германии длилась 872 дня: с 8 сентября 1941 года по 27 января 1944 года.
