Карбышев родился в 1880 году в Омске. Участвуя в русско-японской войне, он получил пять орденов. После войны продолжил службу во Владивостоке и стал одним из основателей крепостного сапёрного батальона.
Дмитрий Михайлович был не только выдающимся военным. Он оставил более 100 научных трудов будучи советским учёным в области инженерного дела.
В начале Великой Отечественной войны Карбышев попал в плен. Прошёл 13 лагерей смерти и погиб в Маутхаузене. Его мужество и верность Родине навсегда останутся в нашей памяти.
В 1946 году ему посмертно присвоено звание Героя Советского Союза.
